Signs - Signs communicate. Signs commemorate. Signs cause us to ruminate. Signs memorialize. Signs hypnotize.
The immediate purpose of a sign is to communicate a message. A sign should be short and sweet. It should be clear. It should provide information.
Given time, signs do much more than communicate a simple message. Given time, signs document the past. Given time, signs provide a lesson, even though we may not be clear what that lesson is.
Signs have to be understood in context. In the absence of context, signs dispense context.
